PhD Studentship in Health Economics

Location: Elgin, UK
Application deadline: 23rd July 2010

UHI provides university-level education through a unique partnership of fourteen colleges and research institutions located throughout the Highlands & Islands. Designated as a higher education institution in April 2001, we are working together to create a fully established research-based university.

Within UHI, the Centre for Rural Health (CRH), based in Inverness and with staff distributed across the North of Scotland, conducts innovative research into ways of providing health services to remote and rural communities and how rural people can be involved in service provision and influencing decisions. In partnership, Moray College UHI and CRH are offering a three-year fully funded PhD studentship to start in the 2010/2011 academic year.

The PhD study will focus on the development, effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and acceptability of an e-health tool for the self management of urinary incontinence symptoms in women in accessible rural and remote rural settings.

The successful candidate will be based at Moray College in Elgin and work under the day to day supervision of Dr Gaener Rodger, Senior Research Fellow in Rural Health Economics, CRH, UHI. Additional supervisory support will be provided by Professor Grant Cumming, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin and Dr Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, Senior Clinical Lecturer, Consultant Urogynaecologist, Division of Applied Health Sciences, University of Aberdeen.

Applicants are normally expected to have at least a 2.1 Honours degree (or overseas equivalent) or Masters Degree in a relevant discipline.
