Visas & Passports

Travel to Canada

As of June 2009, all visitors to Canada must produce a valid passport. It is important to ensure that your passport’s expiration date is valid for six months after your anticipated departure date.

Many non-residents will require a Canadian issued travel visa - referred to as a Temporary Resident Visa - when entering Canada.

To determine if you will require a visa, please refer to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada web site

Note that iHEA CANNOT intercede or contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada on behalf of congress visa applicants, and that any expedited courier fees will solely be the responsibility of the delegate

Invitation Letters

How to Apply

Temporary Resident Visas may require an accompanying letter of invitation issued by the host organizing committee to ensure proper processing.

Please note that – other than bone fide developing region scholarship applicants – official letters of invitation will ONLY be issued once outstanding memberships and congress fees are paid in full - NO EXCEPTIONS.

Application processing varies by country. Citizenship and Immigration Canada advises that the type of invitation letter (original signed copy versus electronic PDF version) will vary from country to country, confirm with the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate Office to determine their specific requirements. It is the YOUR responsibility to ensure that the documentation provided is sufficient. It is recommended that you indicate that you are "attending a scientific conference" when referencing the reason for your trip.

iHEA will NOT accept invitation letter requests by e-mail. Request an invitation letter
