11th Annual Canadian Health Economists' Study Group Conference (CHESG)
Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Dates: June 6-7, 2012
Full-Paper submission deadline: February 27, 2012
The Canadian Health Economist’s Study Group is an annual conference of economists with an interest in theoretical or empirical economic analysis of issues related to health or health care. The conference typically covers a day and a half.
Dr. Donald Kenkel and Dr. Joseph Terza will each deliver a keynote address. Dr. Kenkel’s research focuses on the economics of disease prevention and health promotion. In particular, his research on the economics of public health policies has focused on the use of alcohol taxes and other policies to prevent alcohol problems, the use of cigarette taxes to prevent youth smoking, and the effect of advertising to promote smoking cessation. Dr. Terza’s research focuses on applied health econometrics, specializing in the development and application of nonlinear econometric methods for the analysis of health policy using survey (non-experimental) data. In particular, his recent health policy research has looked at labor market outcomes of individuals with spinal cord injury, the use and finance of prescription drugs for the elderly, and the economic causes and consequences of substance abuse.
Meals will be provided. All other expenses, including transportation and lodging, are the participant’s responsibility. Selection of papers for presentation is done by a local scientific committee, based on submission of completed papers, not abstracts.
Ten papers will be accepted for presentation. The conference will consist of a full day of presentations on Wednesday, June 6 and a half-day of presentations on Thursday, June 7. Each paper is allotted 45 minutes for the presentation, comments from a discussant, and general discussion. Submissions are invited from any geographical location.
If you would like to present, please submit a complete draft in two versions: (i) an anonymized version, and (ii) a version containing author(s) contact information. Submissions should be in an electronic format (.doc or .pdf) and sent to chesg@ualberta.ca by February 27, 2012. Submissions should be unpublished. Decisions will be made by April 1, 2012. The conference organizers must receive complete papers by May 1. For further information, please contact the local organizing committee at chesg@ualberta.ca.
