Call for Papers: 10th Journees Louis-Andre Gerard-Varet Conference in Public Economics

The tenth edition of the Journees Louis-Andre Gerard-Varet will take place in Marseille on June 20-21-22, 2011
Launched in 2002, this yearly conference aims at encouraging production and diffusion of high quality research in public econom- ics, with a special emphasis toward results that clearly contribute to shed light on various aspects of “real world ” public decision making. In this sense, this conference is in the spirit of the project of developing the Institut d’Economie Publique (IDEP) to which Louis-Andre Gerard -Varet devoted the last years of his life.
The Journees Louis-Andre Gerard-Varet are open to all fields of public economics, both applied and theoretical. Are especially (but not exclusively) requested papers in the following categories of topics:
- Taxation (including transfers, social security, etc.)
- Local Public Economics and Geographical Economics
- Fiscal Federalism
- Provision of public goods
- Externalities
- Political Economy
- Auctions and public markets
- Regulation of firms
- Law and economics
- Environment
- Health Economics
- Education
- Normative foundation of public intervention and Social Choice
- Economic Inequalities
- Macroeconomic policy and growth
For its 10th edition, the conference will hold a special memorial day devoted to Louis-Andre Gerard-Varet.
The program will as usual consist in both contributed papers and keynote lectures. Two of the keynote lectures will be given this year by:
- Roger Myerson, University of Chicago, Nobel Laureate
- Emmanuel Saez, University of Berkeley.
The contributed papers will be selected out of the submissions received. These submissions, which should at least take the form of a four pages abstract or, much preferably, of a version of the complete paper, must be received no later than March, 15 th 2011 by the scientific committee. A decision will be communicated to submitters no latter than April, 15th 2011.

Second Conference of the African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA)
Location: Dakar, Senegal, Africa
Dates: 15th to 19th March 2011
Abstract Deadline: 31 August 2010
We call on all African health economists and health policy analysts or those working in Africa or on research of relevance to Africa to submit abstracts for the Second Conference of the African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA), which will be held in Dakar, Senegal from 15th to 19th March 2011. The overall theme of this conference is “Toward universal health coverage in Africa”. Universal coverage is understood to mean providing financial protection against health care costs for all as well as ensuring access to needed health care for all.
Abstracts must be submitted by 31 August 2010 to john.ataguba@uct.ac.za and copied to afhea08@gmail.com. They will be reviewed by the AfHEA conference Scientific Committee, which includes representatives from a wide range of African countries and is chaired by Prof. Di McIntyre of the University of Cape Town. Those submitting abstracts will be informed of the outcome by the end of October 2010.
