Call for Special Issue "The Economic Crisis and Mental Health Services": The International Journal of Mental Health
Abstract submission deadline: 1 March 2009
Paper submission deadline: 1 July 2009
The International Journal of Mental Health invites submission of papers for inclusion in a special issue on ‘The Economic Crisis and Mental Health Services’ to appear early in 2010.
The emerging economic crisis is already increasing the occurrence of a variety of stressful economic events such as home foreclosures, job losses, job insecurity, underemployment, depletion of household savings, and cuts to state budgets for mental health and human services. Many of these changes are likely to affect the need for and use of mental health services. This special issue will seek to inform future debate on the likely mental health impacts of a new economic crisis.
We are seeking original research papers on experiences in a variety of populations and countries. These will appear alongside a commissioned literature review.
Papers should address one of the following areas:
- How do economic crises affect:
- the incidence and prevalence of various mental illnesses
- access to mental health treatment
- utilization of mental health services, including medications
- the mental health treatment system?
- How do these impacts differ for subpopulations, e.g. women, children, the elderly, socioeconomically vulnerable groups?
If you plan to submit a paper for this special issue, please send an abstract by March 1, indicating interest. Completed papers will be due by July 1, 2009, for peer review and consideration for publication.
Papers should be sent to the Guest Editor: Dominic Hodgkin, Ph.D. (hodgkin@brandeis.edu), by July 1, 2009.
