Call for Papers: Advances in Health Economics and Health Services Research, volume 19: Health Care Financing in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Submission Deadline: 15 February 2008
Edited by Dov Chernichovsky and Kara Hanson
Across low-and middle-income countries there is a diversity of approaches to health care financing policies and programs. This is increasingly accompanied by conceptual and applied research which is contributing to our understanding of how different financing mechanisms are able to contribute to the objectives of a health care system – improving health by facilitating access to health services, ensuring that this access is equitable, containing aggregate costs, using resources effectively, and meeting patient needs and preferences.
We have been invited to edit a set of high quality papers on the subject of health care financing in low- and middle-income countries which will be published as the 2009 volume of Advances in Health Economics and Health Services Research. This volume is published by Elsevier, and the overall series editors are Bjorn Lindgren and Michael Grossman. We see the audience for this volume to include both researchers and practitioners.
We seek to identify a set of papers which collectively address: the full range of elements of health care financing: resource collection, resource pooling, allocation, and provider payment both middle- and low-income settings mainly in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean
The papers should be primarily empirical, though grounded in theoretical / conceptual discussions. All papers will be subject to peer review.
At this stage we are inviting the submission of brief abstracts (around 350 words). We will then review the abstracts to ensure an appropriate balance of subject areas, etc, and invite full papers accordingly.
We are working to the following timeline:
- Submission of abstracts – 15th of Feb. 2008;
- Decisions and invitation of papers – end of February 2008
- Submission of complete first draft papers – 1st of August 2008
- Peer review of papers – August – September 2008
- Submission of final papers – 15th of December 2008
Please send your abstract to Dov (dov@bgu.ac.il) and Kara (Kara.Hanson@lshtm.ac.uk)
